Airstrikes Target Key Al-Shabaab Positions in Middle Shabelle Region

Close confidant sources from the Middle Shabelle region have confirmed that heavy airstrikes hit Al-Shabaab’s key positions in the Alkowsar area last night, leading to substantial casualties within the militant group.

The airstrike specifically targeted Ali Biyow Gaafow, a high-ranking Al-Shabaab commander, along with his bodyguards. Reports suggest that all individuals in Gaafow’s group were killed in the attack.

Gaafow was a notorious militant leader in the region, known for commanding Al-Shabaab fighters operating within Middle Shabelle. While the Somali government has yet to release an official statement on the operation, more details are expected to be provided shortly.

Tensions remain high in the Alkowsar area, extending to Adan Yabaal, where intense military activity continues as both sides engage in maneuvers. This strike is part of a series of aerial bombardments targeting Al-Shabaab hideouts in areas such as Ceel Cali Ahmed, Ceelbacad, and the outskirts of Adan Yabaal. These operations have reportedly caused significant losses to the militant group.

Somali military officials have emphasized that their strategy focuses on eliminating Al-Shabaab’s presence from these regions by targeting their hideouts and key positions.

In addition to the Alkowsar strikes, another airstrike was reported in Jilib, the Al-Shabaab stronghold in Middle Juba. The attack in Jilib targeted vital facilities, including the district headquarters, training camps, and residences associated with senior leaders like Xasan Yacquub and Amiin.

These airstrikes are seen as part of a larger effort to support Somali government forces and local militias who are actively battling Al-Shabaab militants in the Shabelle region
