Mogadishu-
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to travel to Kismayo, the capital of Jubbaland State, following significant progress in talks with Jubbaland leader Ahmed Madobe.
The negotiations, facilitated by the United Arab Emirates, have reportedly reached an encouraging stage. Formal discussions are slated to begin in Kismayo, with a preliminary delegation due to arrive in the city ahead of the president’s visit.
Sources indicate that the initial points under discussion include Ahmed Madobe’s withdrawal of his disputed election claim. In return, the Federal Government of Somalia would recognize him as interim president of Jubbaland.
Although the talks remain in their early stages, observers believe they have strong prospects for success, citing continued support for Madobe from key regional partners such as the UAE, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
Ahmed Madobe is currently in Nairobi meeting Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, who has been part of an opposition bloc against President Hassan Sheikh’s administration. Reports suggest the two leaders are discussing a roadmap for the upcoming talks between Jubbaland and the Federal Government of Somalia.
