Baku, Azerbaijan-The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia, Ambassador Khadiija Maxamed Al-makhzoumi, attended the opening of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. She is leading a large delegation from Somalia to participate in the event.
The delegation includes Somalia’s Ambassador to Turkey and Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency, Maxamuud Macallin Cabdulle, and other key officials.
In a statement to national media, Minister Khadiija expressed optimism about achieving significant outcomes from COP29, particularly in international cooperation and securing adequate funding to address climate challenges. She has also met with various leaders attending the conference to discuss critical climate-related issues.
Somalia aims to leverage COP29 to gain international support for its climate action plans and to showcase its ongoing efforts to tackle climate
challenges impacting the nation.
