Dubai,UAE –Ahmed Madobe is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he is meeting with the UAE government, which is facilitating talks between him and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
According to the information received, the talks follow a recent visit by a UAE delegation to Mogadishu. During that visit, President Hassan Sheikh discussed the Sudanese crisis at the United Nations Headquarters and reportedly used the opportunity to express concerns about the UAE’s influence in Somalia. He urged the UAE to stop providing financial and political support to Ahmed Madobe and Said Deni.
In response, the UAE summoned Ahmed Madobe to Dubai and asked him to engage in direct talks with President Hassan Sheikh, who accepted the proposal. These talks are expected to begin soon.
The Somali government wants Ahmed Madobe to support open elections under the supervision of the national electoral commission. However, Madobe is reportedly aiming to prolong the negotiations, hoping to delay any agreement until President Hassan Sheikh’s term ends—at which point he could withdraw from the deal, claiming the president’s mandate has expired.
