Doha-
The Federal Government of Somalia and the State of Qatar have signed a cooperation agreement in Doha that will lay the foundation for the establishment of the Somalia University of Technology (TUS University).
The agreement was signed between Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education and the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), which will provide technical and academic support to Somalia in implementing the new university project.
The Somalia University of Technology will provide high-quality technical and vocational education aimed at equipping Somali students with practical skills that meet the demands of the modern labour market. UDST will play a key role in curriculum development, faculty training, quality assurance, and the establishment of academic accreditation and certification systems.
The first phase of the project will focus on several strategic fields, including technology, marine sciences, aviation, petroleum studies, engineering, energy, and healthcare management.
The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening the knowledge and professional skills of Somali youth while producing qualified professionals capable of meeting the country’s growing labour-market needs.
The agreement forms part of Somalia’s National Transformation Plan 2025–2029, which seeks to improve the quality of education and develop skills aligned with the requirements of the labour market.
Special priority will also be given to training Somali lecturers and academic professionals, who are expected to eventually assume responsibility for the management and academic leadership of the new university.
Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education expressed its appreciation to the Government and people of Qatar for their continued support and cooperation with Somalia, particularly in the education and development sectors.
The signing ceremony was attended by Somalia’s Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education, the Somali Ambassador to Qatar, and senior officials from the University of Doha for Science and Technology.
